We visited Peach Valley KOA on our 2nd voyage in the new camper. We wanted a campsite that had full hookups that would allow us to break in the new Matilda and check out all her doodads. This campground fit the bill and that was about it.
Our site was #32 and backed up to the Valley River and was on a corner so we only had 1 neighbor…who just so happened to make an awkward comment as soon as we got there and stared at our camper the whole weekend. Creeper.
Each site is graveled with some type of fire ring…whether it be an old wheel like ours, a few bricks thrown on the ground or a metal fit pit. Our fire ring was full of ashes and cigarette butts. Classy. We didn’t use it because it rained our entire visit so it was a non-issue but slightly annoying to think you’d have to shovel out ashes yourself before you could use it. There was also a picnic table. Most sites were pretty small but had 30/50 amp electric, cable, water, and sewer hook ups. There are also partial hook up sites with no sewer and a few tent sites but it was very muddy while we were there and didn’t really check them out. There are also 3 “cabins” (mobile homes) which could be rented.
Amenities included a dog park, which Frankie enjoyed running off leash in. It was huge! There was also a small pool, a game room with none of the games turned on, and a defunct playground with a small play set, teather ball with knots in it, a crooked volleyball set and basketball located on a bed of grass. Almost the entire campground was gravel so riding bikes would have been tricky for little kids. There was a bathhouse and laundry facility as well. The grounds were maintained but could have been better. It needed more manicured lawns, more gravel, and more mulch. The amenities needed to be in better working order. It was just ok.
As for things to do, we have no idea. We literally didn’t leave the campground and barely even went outside. It poured for 3 days straight and the gnats were annoying. The river wasn’t much of a draw either because it had very steep river banks and was quite deep so I wouldn’t have let my kids in it to play even if they had come with us on this trip. We do think a big draw to this campground would be Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino and Hotel which was 1 mile away.
So what did we do, you ask? We nested, watched movies, slept, and just generally unplugged. It’s been a busy and stressful few months for us so we were excited to just do absolutely nothing! I made chili in my tiny Instapot and corn muffins in the oven. We took showers and ran the water to do dishes (yay sewer hookup). We figured out that we can’t run an Instapot, the AC and the electric hot water heater all at the same time without blowing the circuit. Scott organized his outdoor cubbies. Frankie kept guard, napped, and chewed her bone. It was quiet and relaxing.
In conclusion, this was our least favorite campground we visited so far and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who was looking for an outdoor adventure. It fit the bill for what we needed and if you were a gambler looking for a cheap place to stay it would also be a good stay.
